Choosing a course

Upon successful completion of a course, you can enroll in the next level without taking a placement test.
Who can take part?
Students at the University of Rostock and the HMT
In general, all students at the University of Rostock (including international visiting students) and the Rostock University of Music and Drama (HMT) are eligible to enroll in the Language Center’s courses.
Students from other universities
Students from other universities may enroll in language courses upon payment of the corresponding higher tuition fee.
Doctoral students
Doctoral students at the University of Rostock and its affiliated institutes are also eligible to take these courses. They should register using this status (not as undergraduates).
Staff members at the University of Rostock
Employees of the University of Rostock may enroll in courses intended for students, provided that there are still spots available at the start of the course. To register, please contact the course instructors at the Language Center.
In addition, special courses exclusively for University of Rostock employees are offered on a regular basis. Registration for these courses is only possible through staff members at the Language Center.
Audit students
Auditors are individuals who are neither enrolled as students nor employed at the university. In exceptional cases, auditors may enroll in courses offered by the Language Center. To do so, interested parties must contact the coordinators for the respective language at the end of the registration period to inquire whether there are still available spots.
Step by step
Step 1: Information
The course offerings for the coming semester appear a few weeks before the start of the semester in the Central Course Catalog and on the Language Center homepage.
The general, detailed course descriptions can be found on the homepage at any time. Please note that not all courses described there are offered every semester.
The exact dates for the testing period and the enrollment period will be announced in good time via the homepage.
Step 2: Placement test
When do you need a placement test?
For all courses in which previous knowledge is required, a placement test must be taken if the previous course at the Language Center has not been successfully completed.
Test location: online (homepage)
Test period: enrollment period
Step 3: Registration
[] To participate in the courses offered by the Language Center, online enrollment via the Language Center homepage is required. The enrollment period begins approximately three weeks before the semester starts.
Step 4: Payment
If the course is chargeable for you, you have several days to transfer the course fee. All the necessary information is in an email that you will receive after successful registration.
